"For this reason, with the support of the international community, including Italy, Angola will organize next month an international conference on maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea," announced Lourenzo in the official talks in the wake of a visit by his Italian counterpart Roberta Pinotti.
He recalled that since the independence proclaimed on November 11, 1975, his country went through a situation of conflict until 2002, and now is devoted to consolidate democracy and economic and social development.
"We need investments,” he said, “but for that to happen, we should guarantee security and stability in the nation, an effort made in the past few years in spite of financial difficulties due to the fall in oil price in the international market.”
According to Lourenzo, Angola, the current pro tempore president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), is looking for solutions to peace in the area, where the situations in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and Burungi trigger concern, he said.
