TEHRAN, Sep. 05 (MNA) – The Iranian national karate team's first medal in the 2015 13th Asian Karate Championship was achieved by Amir Mahdizadeh on Friday.

The Iranian below-60-kilogram karateka Amir Mahdizadeh beat the other finalist of this weight from Taiwan 9-nil in the final match and won the gold medal.

He had earlier on Friday morning beat another Chinese karateka 13-3 and in the next match he beat a Korean competitor 8-0.

The golden representative of Iran in his 3rd math on Friday beat a Saudi karateka 5-nil and in his semi-final match he defeated a competitor from Japan.

The other Iranian karateka Saead Ahmadi, who had reached final after three wins in a row, could not defeat his Kyrgyz opponent in the final match and received the silver medal. He had previously beaten fighters from Sri Lanka, Kuwait, and Jordan.

Member of Iran’s women team Sahar Karaji, who had reached final after defeating karatekas from Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, also got the silver medal by losing to her Japanese enemy.

The Iranian national karate team is participating in all fields of the Yokohama Asian Karate Championships with 14 men and 11 women athletes in Individual and Team Kata and Individual and Team Kumite.

The 13th Asian Karate Championship began on Friday in Japan's Yokohama City with 285 athletes from 33 countries and will continue until Sunday.
