TEHRAN, Sep. 04 (MNA) – Iranian national basketball team defeated Philippines to gain their fifth victory in a row on the sixth day of the FIBA's William Jones Basketball Games.

Iran recorded the fifth victory at the William Jones Cup by knocking down Philippines to stay on top of the ladder.

Hamed Haddadi scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace the winners.

Iran eked out a 34:31 halftime lead and stretched the gap at 7-point mark at the final intermission and maintained it throughout the fourth term.

Hamed Afagh provided 13 points for the winners while Asi Taulava rsponded with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Philippines.

Also, on the 6th day of the competitions, South Korea registered the fourth win at the William Jones Cup. They held off Taiwan B selection. In another match Taiwan A improved at 4-1 record at home by defeating Russia. The Wellington Saints also clinched the second victory in Taipei. They held off Japan for 2-3 record.

The 6th day games' scores were as follows:
Russia  73 –  77 Taiwan A
Iran 74 – 65 Philippines
New Zealand 89 – 81 Japan
Taiwan B 70 – 77 South Korea

So far the Iranian national basketball team is the top team with 5-1 record. The second and third top teams at the end of the 6rd day are Taiwan A national team and Russia.

The 7th day game’s schedule is as follows:

Philippines – New Zealand

Japan – South Korea

USA – Taiwan B

The 2015 William Jones Cup is the 37th edition of the basketball tournament. The event is held at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan from August 29 to September 6, 2015.
