TEHRAN, Sep. 1 (MNA) – On the third day of the FIBA's William Jones Basketball Games, Iran, South Korea, Taiwan, and Russia could defeat their enemies and the Iranian national basketball team is the top team with 6 points.

The 37th William Jones Cup basketball tournament that started on Saturday in Taiwan with the participation of 9 teams finished its third day on Monday during which Iran national basketball team won the battle with Japan with a difference of 21 points. Iran had previously won their first two games against South Korea and Taiwan.

The 3rd day games' scores were as follows:
Wellington Saints New Zealand 94 – Spartak Primorye Russia 98
Iran 78 – Japan 57
South Korea 82 – Philippines 70
Taiwan A 96 – Overtake USA Pro Select United States 77

So far the Iranian national basketball team is the top team with 6 points, equal to Russia but with a better score balance. The third top team at the end of the 3rd day is Taiwan A national team with five points.

The 4th day game’s schedule is as follows:

Iran - Wellington Saints New Zealand

South Korea - Overtake USA Pro Select United States

Taiwan A – Taiwan B

The Jones Cup tournament serves as one of the national team’s preparation for this year’s FIBA Asia Championship Olympic Qualifying in Changsha, China on September 23 to October 3.

The 2015 William Jones Cup is the 37th edition of the basketball tournament. The event is held at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan from August 29 to September 6, 2015.

The competition features national teams from Asia and professional basketball teams from United States, New Zealand and Russia.

This year's edition of the Jones Cup is using a single round robin format. The team with the best win-loss record will be declared the tournament champion.
