TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) – The new Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Khalil Akcha met and talked with Deputy FM Abbas Araghchi.

Iran's deputy foreign minister congratulated and expressed satisfaction about the appointment of Khalil Akcha as the new Secretary General of ECO as a person familiar with international issues and experienced in economic development and planning matters.

Araqchi also stressed the need to further strengthen the ECO Secretariat and expansion of its activities and noted Iran’s continuous support towards the organization and ECO Secretary General in this regard.

Enumerating the various aspects of cooperation with ECO, Araqchi stated that, “member countries expect to observe the tangible outcomes of ECO’s activities specifically with regard to infrastructure projects and programs; therefore, they are looking forward to the provision and operation of new ideas and initiatives.”

Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs expressed respect to the efforts of the former Secretary General of ECO and emphasized the need for additional effort to strengthen ECO’s internal structure as well as the need for using the accumulated experience and capabilities of member countries by the current Secretary General and his colleagues adding that vast opportunities are available in ECO for development of cooperation which all require exploration and exploitation.

Khalil Akcha also expressed gratitude about Iran’s support of ECO and reported on the actions taken by this organization emphasizing on our country’s central role in guiding the activities of ECO. He further explained parts of his agenda and called for support and assistance on part of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
