TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – On his arrival in New York, Iran’s parliament speaker said that democracy, peace and sustainable development can be the main aspects of World Conference of Parliament Speakers.

“The main objective of this conference is for the world’s parliaments to gain a closer and clearer connection with the United Nations,” expressed Larijani.

Deeming sustainable peace and development as main topics of the event, he added that, “there is no guarantee that we have achieved sustainable peace and development in the shelter of democracy, because we have not been able to put all these theoretical discussions into practice.”

“This conference which has a deep root in history comprising the world’s parliaments and occasionally holds a meeting in the United Nations,” said Larijani, asserting that the topic of this meeting will definitely be on the current conditions of different countries specifically with regard to our region.

Iranian official will meet with his counterparts of different countries on the sidelines of the fevent in order to discuss bilateral relations and development of the countries' joint ventures as well as regional and international issues.

Larijani heads a high-raking delegation of MPs, including Alireza Marandi, Kazem Jalali, Javad Jahangirzadeh, Ahmad Reza Dastgheib and Mo’ayyed Hosseini-Sadr.

Larijani was welcomed by Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN Gholamali Khoshrou and his deputy Gholamhossein Dehqani in New York's JFK International Airport.

The Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday 31 August to Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

The Conference is part of the series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit in late September 2015, at which the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be launched.
