The first International Festival of Rhythm Nagara in Azerbaijan, which was held on Aug. 22-28, granted its diploma and a statuette of the festival to Mohsen Sharifian’s folkloric music goup, Lian.
The band led by the Ney-anbān virtuoso Mohsen Sharifian, performed a repertoire of folk music of their native region (Bushehr) at the Shaki Green Theater on August 24. Bushehri music is a subdivision of Bandari music, which is common in Iran’s southern coastal cities.
A special program that musical director of Lian had chosen for this concert consisted of the duet by the Ney-anbān and the Naqara during which the famous Nagara Player Natiq Shirinov accompanied Sharifian.
Eminent musicians and ensembles from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Uzbekistan competed in the event.
Organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with the Shaki Municipality, the festival culminated on Firday.
