TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani left Tehran for New York today to attend the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in New York.

Larijani heads a delegation of seven lawmakers to attend the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments due to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday 31 August to Wednesday, 2 September 2015.

Previously, the United States had refused to grant visa to some Iranian officials who are to accompany the Parliament speaker on his New York visit, raising the possibility that Ali Larijani’s trip could be cancelled.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Ghashghavi announced on Friday that the US has issued their visa and the Iranian Parliament delegation will attend the summit with no problems.

This summit of Speakers of Parliaments from across the world is a unique forum for dialogue and cooperation between parliaments at the highest level. The overall theme of the Conference is peace, democracy and development as seen by parliaments.

The forum is part of the series of high-level meetings leading to the UN summit on the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in late September 2015.
