In a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, the production line of the Nasr air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) was launched on Tuesday.
The ceremony was held in the second day of the Government Week in Iran which marks the assassination of the former president, prime minister and the whole cabinet of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1980 by a member of the terrorist group Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (aka MKO or MEK).
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, the minister stressed that development of the Iran's missile power aimed at reinforcing the combat power of the armed forces and increasing the level of the country's deterrence.
"The inauguration of Nasr air-launched cruise missile would increase the strength of tactical power of the Iranian military forces," Dehghan said. He asserted that the Nasr missile system could be installed on different kinds of fighters.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries and that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
