Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who is currently in Pakistani capital city of Islamabad held talks with Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday morning on various bilateral and regional issues.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the need for holding consultations to reach diplomatic solutions to regional problems as well as the expansion of all-out cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, especially in the period of post-nuclear agreement that was struck between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries in July.
Zarif told reporters upon arrival at Benazir Bhutto International Airport that one of the most important objectives of his visit to Pakistan was exchange of views with the country’s officials on ways to boost economic cooperation.
“We are trying to resolve the problems in the two countries’ economic relations that were caused by the sanctions,” Zarif told reporters.
In his one-day visit, the Iranian diplomat is expected to meet with National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz, Chairman of Senate Raza Rabbani, and Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Zarif is also scheduled to hold a press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad.
Zarif will leave Islamabad for New Delhi Thursday evening to hold meetings with Indian officials.
