ALMATY, Jul. 25 (MNA) – Two Iranian sprinters Zamani and Hashemi got their place in the final round of 400 m competition of Kosanov Memorial Tournament in Kazakhstan.

Running in Kosanov Memorial Tournament in Almaty City of Kazakhstan, Iranian track and field sprinters Mehdi Zamani and Sajjad Hashemi secured their place in the final round of the 400 meters, after registering respectively 46:18 and 47:28 time in the morning competitions. The athletes will fight for the gold at 16:30 Local time.

Zamani reached new heights at the 2014 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, winning the individual 400 meters gold medal after setting a personal best of 47.62 seconds to win at the Iranian Championships.

Iranian sprint athlete Sajjad Hashemi Ahangari was born in August 22, 1991 in Tabriz. In July 2011, He broke the national record in the 400 m with a run of 45.81 seconds, as he defeated Kenya's Mark Mutai to take the gold medal in 2011 Rio de Janeiro.

Iran’s national squad in this tournament comprises of Reza Ghasemi, Hassan Taftian, Sajjafd Hashemi Ahangari, Mehdi Zamani, Keivan Ghanbarzadeh, Mohammadreza Vazifehdoust, Vahid Seddigh, Ahmad Foroud, Leyla Rajabi, Elnaz Company, and Mohammad Hossein Abareghi.

Gusman Kosanov (May 25, 1935 - July 19, 1990) was a Soviet athlete who competed mainly in the 100 meters. He trained in Kishinev and later in Almaty at the Armed Forces Sports Society.

He competed for the USSR in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy in the 4 x 100 meter relay where he won the silver medal with his team mates Leonid Bartenev, Yuriy Konovalov and Edvin Ozolin.
