According to AFP, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will visit Iran 'next week' and is scheduled to hold talks with President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Fabius told AFP that his trip comes at the invitation of FM Mohammad Javad Zarif and that “everything is in place for me to go."
"I find it completely normal that after this historic deal was signed, France and Iran should restart normal relations," Fabius stressed.
The French diplomat will visit Tehran as a political official and without any delegation accompanying him. According to his aides, the trip would likely take place on July 29.
Fabius' trip announcement closely follows the recent visit from German Economy Minister and Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, who was the first top Western official to visit the country since Iran and the 5+1 group of countries struck a nuclear deal after years of negotiations.
Foreign ministers of Italy and Spain are among other European political figures to have announced their upcoming visit to Tehran.
After Iran and the 5+1 group of countries sealed a deal over Tehran's nuclear program last week, many Western companies which have been keeping a keen eye on the results of the negotations, are now voicing thier interest in participating in the country's various economic and trade projects.
