TEHRAN, Jul. 20 (MNA) – Day one of the 60-day review period by US Congress begins today, Monday, July 20.

US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby released a press statement on Sunday announcing that the conclusion of Iran, 5+1 nuclear talks has officially been handed over to the Congress.

“Pursuant to the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, today the State Department transmitted to Congress the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, its annexes, and related materials. These documents include the Unclassified Verification Assessment Report on the JCPOA and the Intelligence Community's Classified Annex to the Verification Assessment Report, as required under the law,” reads the statement.

Therefore, Day One of the 60-day review period begins today on Monday, July 20. Both chambers of the Congress have until September 17 to review the JCPOA and its five annexes. Twelve additional days are provided if the House and Senate send a joint resolution to the president, which is likely a rejection of the deal. Meanwhile, since President Obama has vowed to veto a negative vote by the Congress 10 more days are allowed for Congress to vote for an override of presidential veto. Two third of both chambers’ votes are required to override president’s veto power.
