GWANGJU, Jul. 12 (MNA) – With three more medals clinched at the 28th edition of Universiade on Sat. Iran has secured its 9th standing on the tenth day of the event currently underway in South Korea’s Gwangju.

On day 10 of the 28th edition of Universiade which opened in Gwangju on July 3, Iranian athletes snatched three more medals to secure their ninth standing in the medal distribution table.

On Saturday, Iranian taekwondo practitioners Seyed Ahmad Khosrowfar and Akram Khodabandeh both exhibited impressive performances in their march to final competition and claimed two gold medals each at the Chosun University Gymnasium.

Earlier on the day, Mehran Askari fetched a bronze medal for Iran in the 87+ kilogram class.

Iran’s students soccer team beat Chinese Taipei and will take on Canada on Monday to obtain the 13th place.

The volleyball team also snatched the fifth place after overcoming Japan.

Iran is still standing at the ninth place with 14 medals (6 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze). In the medal distribution table, South Korea stands first with 82 medals. Russia (102 medals) and China (58 medals) come second and third in the international sports event.

The 2015 Summer Universiade will run until July 14.
