Having Put into full functioning the five highly prioritized phases of the South Pars gas field, Iranian oil ministry is now focusing on other phases of the supergiant offshore gas field in the Persian Gulf.
In a monumental step, the officials hope to put part of phase 19 online in late September as the overall physical progress in the project ups 86.6 percent.
Within the next three months, 500 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas per day of phase 19 output will come on-stream and a new platform of the phase will be installed in autumn, said Hamidreza Masoudi the manager of phase 19.
According to Masoudi, water testing operation of offshore-to-onshore pipelines of the phase is underway and the pipelines are in 91.5% physical progress adding that the numbers for onshore, drilling and platform construction are 84.7%, 99.5%, and 74.5%.
South Pars, divided into 29 development phases, contains 40 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of natural gas.
It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
The gas field is estimated to contain about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
