In his latest interview with Iranian state TV on Monday, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reiterated Tehran’s approach toward Yemeni crisis saying that the sole solution of the problem was negotiation.
The Iranian diplomat referred to the attendance of all Yemeni sides in the recent round of Geneva talks and called it a proving evident that all Yemenis believe in realistic talks.
Condemning the continuation of Saudi strikes in the holy month of Ramadan, Amir-Abdollahian said that laying siege on fasting Yemenis is unjustifiable, inhumane, and against Islamic teachings.
He also expressed Iran’s firm stance in backing the efforts of the UN Special Envoy on Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed for stopping the military aggression against civilians, breaking the inhumane blockade, and resuming Yemeni-Yemeni talks.
Amir-Abdollahian also reaffirmed that Iran keeps aiding the war-stricken people of Yemen with dispatching food and fuel via the international channels of the UN and the Red Cross.
Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 - without a UN mandate - in a bid to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a close ally of Riyadh.
The humanitarian situation in Yemen is rapidly deteriorating. Many international aid organizations have sought clearances to dispatch medical and other humanitarian supplies by air and sea to civilians in need.
UN Human Rights Spokesman Rupert Colville said on June 16 that at least 1,412 civilians, including 210 women, have been killed and a further 3,423 injured since March 26.
