TEHRAN, May 19 (MNA) – An official of Union of Fisheries Cooperatives of Iran has said the country is expected to produce about 1.5 tons of farmed caviar this year.

While announcing the possibility of producing 1.5 tons of farmed caviar this year, Managing Director of Union of Fisheries Cooperatives of Iran Arsalan Ghasemi said the export destinations of Iranian caviar are Europe and the United States of America.

Under the years of sanctions on Iranian economy, two groups of food and medicine were exempted from imposed sanctions and exporters were facing challenges in other cases, such as banking and sea transport, Arsalan Ghasemi said, stressing that European markets had never been closed to Iranian caviar exports.

Due to the problems during the time of sanctions, Ghasemi said, Iranian caviar export to European countries and the US was carried out through intermediaries which are to be removed if Iran and 5+1 negotiators reach a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and lift sanctions.
