TEHRAN, Mar. 13 (MNA) — Privatesector is investing 1.4b dollars in the construction of Iran's largest aluminum factory in Nahavand, said director of the Organization of Industries and Mines of the Hamedan Province.

“Aluminum production factory in Nahavand is slated to have a nominal capacity of 250,000 tons per annum” Mir Abolfat’hi noted.

He also stated that abundance of the water reserves in the region encouraged the private enterprises to select the western and ancient city of Nahavand as the site of the mammoth factory.

The official also noted that the raw materials for the factory would be supplied from both domestic and foreign sources as well as in close cooperation with the British ITM Company.

He also explained that given the natural and historical attractions of the city, establishment of the factory would lead to the growth and development of the region.

Referring to the investment in the plant he said that the investment will be in the form of the buyback and on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, adding that upon the approval of the project by the Bank Melli Iran, the project will begin to be implemented in April.

Iran’s Aluminum production currently stands at about 210,000 tons per annum however, with some development plans underway including the aluminum production plant in the western city of Nahavand, Hamedan Province, would increase to 610,000 tons targeted in the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan.
