Mehr News Agency (MNA), as a private and non-official media was officially launched with Farsi (Persian) and English language services on June 22, 2003. As a matter of development and based on the will of clients, Arabic language service was also introduced on January 4, 2004.

“Mehr” in Persian means: kindheartedness.

As now, MNA wired its news in 6 languages of Persian, English, Arabic, Turkish, Urdu, and German. MNA, as its policy of development, has stringers in Europe, South America, Turkey, East Asia, and some Persian Gulf littoral states for the time – being but will be extended them in correspondents in near future.

Culture and Art (cinema, theater, music, visual arts); Culture and Literature (poetry, stories, books); Religion and Thought; Seminary and University; Modern Technology; Social; Economic; Political; International; Sports; Nuclear Energy; and Photos are 12 fields covered by MNA.

International daily newspaper, Tehran Times with more than three decades of its publication is affiliated with MNA.

The news agency has been involved in international and regional pools and as such, was accepted as the 40th member of the organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) at 13th General Assembly held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on December 2007.

MNA was the host agency of the OANA 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting held in Tehran from November 13 to 17, 2009.

The event was attended by over 40 representatives of 18 governmental and non-governmental news agencies from the Asia-Pacific states. MNA was highly honored for its active cooperation and great contribution to the Tehran’s meeting by the OANA president and representatives of the member states.

MNA also seeks bilateral relations with other news agencies all over the world and has signed MOUs with some so far. It is willing to have more contracts with others on mutual bases in all professional news fields.
