TEHRAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) –  Iran’s Army executive deputy has announced on Saturday that domestically-manufactured Bavar-373 missile defense system similar to the Russian S-300 has become fully operational across the country.

Bavar-373 indigenous missile defense system and Sayyad-3 (Hunter III) missile have been unveiled for the first time on the National Day of Army and with the attendance of President Rouhani.

Brigadier General Mohammad Mahmoudi noted today’s marches were a part of Iranian army’s prowess.

Concurrent with the army’s marches, Iran’s navy fleet staged parades on Makran coastal strip along the coast of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili had previously said in August Bavar-373 fired its first successful shot.

Bavar-373 is an indigenous long-range air defense system developed as an alternative to the Russian S-300 after Moscow canceled its contract in 2010.

According to Iranian security officials, the new system is better than the Russian S-300, as it is able to track over 100 targets, just like the Russian system but with a higher targeting capability.
