Deputy Navy commander Rear-Admiral Gholamreza Khadem-Bigham said on Wednesday the construction of Fateh-class submarine has been completed and it has been deployed to the Ministry of Defense.
After completing the experimental phase, the submarine will join Iran’s navy fleet, he said.
Khadem-Bigham maintained the power of Fateh’s missiles and torpedoes are more than Ghadir-class submarines, which are equipped with sonar-evading technology and can fire missiles and torpedoes simultaneously.
Iran has so far launched different classes of domestically-made advanced submarines, including Fateh, Ghadir, Qaem, Nahang, Tareq and Sina.
Iran’s navy commander announced in May 2014 the country’s third wave of destroyers under the name of Sahand would be commissioned some time during the current Iranain year (ending on March 19, 2016). It is said Sahand destroyer is equipped with more advanced weapons and electronic warfare systems than its first generation destroyer, Jamaran.
In September 2012, Iran's Navy launched the super-heavy Tareq 901 submarine overhauled by Iranian experts.
The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has excellent shallow-depth performance and can conduct prolonged coastal missions and launch torpedoes.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and reached self-sufficiency in producing key military equipment and systems.
Iran’s naval forces are present in the high seas in order to protect and ensure maritime security for ships and vessels.
Iran has named April 18 as Armed Forces Day and will hold various events across the country.
