TEHRAN, Apr. 13 (MNA) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council arrived in Moscow today to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

During his visit to Moscow, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani is scheduled to hold meetings with a number of Russian security and political officials as well as his counterparts from other countries to discuss the latest developments in the region.

The event kicked off on Monday with participation of its member states namely Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the representatives of the supervising states including Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan.

Along with outlining the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions and views on the political and security developments and crises in the region, Ali Shamkhani will explain the necessity of taking a common strategy in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

He also stressed the need for adopting a political solution based on dialogue and cooperation in dealing with regional crises.

The SCO is an intergovernmental organization which seeks to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborliness between the member countries, facilitate their effective cooperation in various fields, promote peace, security and stability in the region and establish a new, democratic, just and rational political and economic international order.
