Morteza Mousakhani told in press conference on Monday that the Robocup Open competitions sought to promote the science of artificial intelligence, robotics, software and hardware, and their applications in different industries.
“Along with the competitions, 4th International Artificial Intelligence Conference will also be held,” said Mousakhani. “730 teams were registered in the competitions of which 345 teams were qualified for the competitions; 309 are Iranians and 36 are foreign teams; high school students participated in the cup with 135 teams and university students participated with 210 teams,” he told the press.
“The Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Pakistan, Britain, Germany, China, Mexico, the US, India, Thailand, Egypt, Belgium, Iran, and Columbia will compete in 25 leagues of robocup; in flying and walking robots, rescue robots have participated as well; high school student participants will compete in two separate halls and two different halls will host adult league,” he detailed.
“Visiting of the competitions is open to the public; more than 4,000 people have received admittance ticket; schools may organize students’ group visits to the competitions,” said the head of holding committee; “the opening ceremony will be on April 7, where presidential deputy for Science and Technology, the head of Iran's National Elites Foundation (INEF), president of Islamic Azad University, and ambassadors of participating countries will also attend,” he added.
“Islamic Azad University will participate in the cup with 50 teams; Qazvin Branch enjoys 8 advanced laboratory for humanoid robots, home robots, subaquatic robots, flying robots, simulator robots, rescue, and virtual robots, and the university provides support for manufacturers of these robots,” Mousakhani told the press conference.
“20 knowledge-based companies are active in Islamic Azad University, and we hope the number will increase to 20 teams by the end of educational year; the winners of the robocup will be entitled to privileges available to elites in National Elite Foundation,” he added.
On the gender combination of the participants, he said that 75 per cent was male and 25 per cent was female, with 2126 males and 610 females in adult league” he told reporters.
