TEHRAN, March 19 (MNA) – Iran’s oil minister has said the upcoming year will be the year of small refineries for South Pars project.

Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, who was speaking to reporters after the last Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, said that completing South Pars new phases would be of priority for the oil industry in the upcoming year (beginning March 21 2015). “8 mini-refineries of gas will be built in Assaluyeh. Increasing Iran’s share of production of oil and gas from shard fields especially west Karoun and South Pars fields is the most important priorities for the ministry,” Zanganeh told reporters, “in west Karoun field , a three-year plan is underway which will produce 700,000 barrels of crude per day,” he added.

“Extending gas national grid to rural and less-privileged areas and eight mini-refineries with total production capacity of 480,000 barrels of condensates tops the agenda; we forecast that the building of these mini-refineries to start in next September in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone,” Zanganeh told the press.

Oil minister also said that extension of gas national grid to southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan and pipeline exporting gas to Iraq as projects of priority for his ministry; “we predict a leap forward in petrochemical industry where ethane production and delivery to refineries would raise the total production in the sector,” he said.

Zanganeh emphasized that his ministry had been a pioneer in implementing Resistance Economic principles through entering into the operational phase of South Pars 6th phase in the current year; “however completed by foreign contractors under the hardships of sanctions, the project was a great feat; similarly, projects completed indigenously and using domestic expertise would be even more commendable in comparison amid sanctions and plummeting oil prices,” he concluded.
