In the Monday ceremony, the social and cultural deputy for the Mayor of Shiraz Mohammad Farrokhzadeh noted the MoU constituted the sustainable development of the city, utilization of research achievements in the world, joining cultural treaties suited to Iran’s culture, educational topics and introducing prominent and honorable figures in Shiraz on the international scene.
According to Farrokhzadeh, there are over 1,900 registered monuments, 700 shrines, more than 120 different fields of crafts and many other famous cultural figures in Fars Province.
“Fars is one of the most unique provinces in Iran either from a geographical, cultural or political point of view,” said Farrokhzadeh, stressing that planning was required to introduce the city’s various potentials to the world.
The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO was established in 1948 subsequent to Iran's accession to UNESCO.
The organization, which acts as a liaison between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) aims to promote mutual understanding between nations through education, the dissemination of knowledge, and raising awareness about cultures.
