TEHRAN, Jan. 25 (MNA) – In a press conference with Iranian FM, Vesna Pusić has expressed Croatia’s eagerness to boost ties with Iran with the lifting of sanctions as soon as a final agreement was reached.

In a Sunday joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif while condemning the anti-Iranian sanctions which have hurt the industries of both countries, announced that he had held good talks in the field of economy with the Croatian FM.

“Iran and Croatia hope to boost bilateral relations with the issue of sanctions resolved,” said Zarif.

Vesna Pusić, for her part, asserted that Croatia as a new member of the European Union has a role in the whole process of Iran’s nuclear negotiation.

“Following the already decided factors and the future agreement, the process of lifting the sanctions against Iran must go underway within the specified period of time,” she said.

She highlighted the significance of the nuclear negotiations adding, “we are currently standing in a critical time in history; there is a chance for success, and the chance needs to be so high for the complicated talks to reach a resolution.”

On Iran’s Parliament measures in response to US congress possible decision to impose new sanctions against Iran, Zarif stressed “Iran’s Majlis as an independent body can adopt certain decisions. The fact that our Constitution does not include a veto power, the Parliament’s resolutions will be implemented.”

While asserting this as a fact and not a warning, Zarif added the Western countries had to decide whether to reach a result through negotiations or continue exerting pressure.

“Western diplomats, particularly the American ones, must heed the fact that sanctions had done nothing for them but damage and built up hatred among Iranian people,” said Zarif, while stressing that a political will on the part of the other side would resolve all conflicts related to Iran’s nuclear program.

“Iran has kept its words and will continue to stand by its commitments; the best approach to reach a solution is to consider Iranian people’s rights and avoid exerting pressure and double standards,” he said.

According to Zarif, meeting between Iran and 5+1 at ministerial level on the sidelines of Munich Security Council (Feb. 6-8) is still undecided since all ministers of the six states need to attend the council.
