ZAHEDAN, Dec. 31 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani has visited Mashhad-Zahedan-Chabhar railway, emphasized the acceleration process of the projects.

President Rouhani, who was in the port city of Chabahar heading a group of Cabinet members, left Chabahar to Jask Wednesday morning.

On his arrival in Chabahar International Airport, he told reporters on Tuesday about his objectives in the visit. “I came to Chabahar to visit the implementation of some projects as well as those under construction and to personally monitor the process of their development,” Rouhani told the press.

President Rouhani also chaired a meeting of Sistan and Baluchestan provincial government officials Tuesday evening in the port city of Chabahar, where he described the southern province the main pathway to free waters as well as Iran’s south-eastern gate.

“Sistan and Baluchestan Province has valuable underground resources, excellent human capabilities, and a strategic geographical position, of which we should take advantage, for the benefit of the province and also of the country”, Rouhani said.

Pointing to the progresses made in the port city of Chabahar and Shahid Beheshti during the current Iranian year, Rouhani stressed the key role of national support for the government. He further admitted, however, that the government could not successfully carry out projects single-handedly. “Today, Sistan and Baluchestan is more secure than ever; it is our national, Islamic and humane duty to enhance its security,” he added.

Rouhani announced the railway development as one of the main issues of his government. “Railway is more secure, cheaper and environmentally safer for the country and we should shift the burden of Iran’s major transportation to the rail sector,” Rouhani stressed.

President also pointed out other government plans for the province including automating the irrigation of 46 acres of agricultural land, gas development in different parts of the province, construction of Steel Complex, etc., saying that the implementation of each of these projects could help the economy.

Dr. Rouhani predicted a great future for Sistan and Baluchestan and said that government would do its best to create better living conditions for the people.

At the meeting of the Administrative Council of Sistan and Baluchestan, 99 projects in various fields, including project development, economy, agriculture, fisheries, health and culture were approved with $3,475 billion credit.
