At a recent ministerial meeting of Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Doha, Tehran was approved as the host of third summit of GECF in 2015, Secretary General of Gas Exporting Countries Forum Mohammad Hossein Adeli told IRNA’s economic correspondent.
The third Summit will be held in Tehran, autumn of 2015, and the leaders of 18 Forum member states will attend the summit.
He added that various issues related to the Forum and the global gas market would be discussed during the Summit. Pointing to Peru membership in recent weeks, Adeli said the number of members in GECF has increased to 18 countries.
Last year, Iran's Mohammad Hossein Adeli was elected as the new secretary general of the GECF for a two-year term.
Currently, Gas Exporting Countries Forum has 18 members and observers and its permanent secretariat is based in Doha, Qatar.
Iran, Russia, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Peru, the United Arabic Emirates and Oman are the key members of the Forum.
Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iraq and Norway have the status of observer members of GECF.
The member states account for 42% of world gas production, 70% of world gas reserves, 40 percent of gas transmission pipelines and 65% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade.
