Iran’s Judiciary High Council for Human Rights official website reported that Mohammad Javad Larijani, the secretary of the Council leads the delegation.
Universal Periodic Review mechanism is the most important human rights mechanism by the UN which reviews human rights conditions in all countries in every 4 years, and it provides countries with general recommendations on how to improve human rights conditions in the reviewed countries.
The first round of reviews was from 2008 to 2011, and now, Council for Human Rights has launched the second round, with Iran’s human rights conditions being the subject of review for the second time. 20th meeting is being held October 27-November 7.
Iran’s high-ranking delegation consisted of high officials from all three branches of Judiciary, Executive and Legislative will attend the meeting on Friday to present its second human rights report based on recommendations made in the past round of the mechanism in February 2010.
The first review evaluated Iran’s human rights obligations, and presented Iran with recommendations and guidelines, and the UN’s Council for Human rights ultimately approved Iran’s UPR report. In current round, Iran will provide the meeting with a report of its actions and measures in judicial, social, legal and cultural aspects based on recommendations of the first review.
