ISFAHAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Director General of Isfahan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department has said that the revival of the Silk Road by UNESCO is necessary for the promotion of tourism in Isfahan.

During the Silk Road Conference held on Saturday and attended by officials from Isfahan and South Korea, Fereydoun Allahyari, Director General of Isfahan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department said, “the Silk Road, which connects China all the way to the Mediterranean Sea is a transmission route which has also established relations among the countries on its way.”

Allahyari noted that due to the significant position of the Silk Road in international interactions, its revival will lead to the promotion of tourism in Isfahan.

“The Silk Road can have a great impact on innovation and cultural relations among countries,” he said, “in the realm of religion, too, it used to be an important basis for cultural and religious interactions, in a way that Islam, Buddhism and Christianity were widely accepted and traveled to other countries.”

Allahyari dubbed UNESCO’s involvement in reviving the Silk Road as good news and said, “UNESCO recognizes this road as having a great cultural potential. Its revival will connect nations in political, social and cultural realms and lead to considerable benefits.”
