TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (MNA) – A statement by Iranian parliamentarians has condemned Saudi court's death sentence for Sheikh Nimr Baqr al-Nimr Shia prominent cleric.

The statement was drafted in Tuesday’s open session of the Parliament. “The verdict of capital punishment for a venerable religious leader who has a prominent place among Islamic world clerics won for Saudi Arabian court a wave of anger and disappointment especially among Shia and Sunni clerical order in Islamic countries,” reads part of the statement.

“Definitely, the execution of the religious leader will create very negative response by the public; the majority of Muslims expect to see Saudi government to intervene on the court verdict to annul the verdict,” the statement added.

“The Parliamentarians condemn the very verdict and strictly demand that the verdict be cancelled,” the statement emphasized.
