BANDAR ABBAS, Aug. 03 (MNA) – The Director of Hormozgan province Port and Maritime Authority has said the non-oil goods transit in Shahid Rajaie Special Economic Zone has skyrocketed staggering 688 per cent.

Ebrahim Idani who was speaking in a press conference on Sunday about recent developments in Shahid Rajaie Special Economic Zone and port told that in the first four months of the year (beginning March 21) the trade had experienced boom in Iran’s greatest trade port.

“A total of 25 million tons of goods, either oil or otherwise, have been loaded and unloaded in the port; of this amount of goods, over 15 million tons are non-oil goods and over 8 million are oil products,” he added.

Idani also added that export of oil products had been up 5 per cent in the port. “Since the beginning of the year, Shahid Rajaie has exported about 2 million tons of petrochemical products, with transit of about the same amount of non-oil goods, which had experienced a staggering 688 per cent growth compared to that in the same time last year,” he said.

“A recent boom in transshipping has worked out the port to an axial port in the region; in the same period, over half a million tons of goods were transshipped via feeder lines, which demonstrated 45 per cent growth,” Idani told the press.

“In the same period, over 4 million tons of non-oil goods were imported, which showed a 31-per cent decline,” he said. “More than 1288 trade ships frequented to the port in the first four months of the year, of which 1042 were over 1000 tons of weight and 246 weighted under 1000 tons,” he explained.

The first liner entered Shahid Rajaie after sanctions were eased by provisions made in Geneva joint Plan of Actions. The port enjoys 40 harbors and country’s most advanced terminals which would host different kinds of ocean navigators.
