Behrouz Kamalvandi believed that it was legally an error to insist that the West recognize Iran’s nuclear rights. However, he maintained that “we fundamentally have the right and should not wait for gaining legitimacy by recognition of these rights by westerners.”
Kamalvandi, who was speaking to a meeting in Allameh Tabatabaei University’s Humanities Faculty, told students in response to a question about recognition of Iran’s nuclear rights, that “part of rights could not be conceded; nor it could be forfeited. Membership in NPT gives the country automatically the right to use peaceful nuclear energy.”
“That our negotiators insist in negotiations that Iran’s rights be recognized, I believe, is to err,” Kamalvandi said, and that “we should not assume a place and authority for the Powers to recognize our nuclear rights.”
He also said that when the west demanded that Iran dilute its 20-per cent enriched uranium to 5 per cent, it had legally recognized the right on the place. “They would be pleased to deprive us our all rights, however when they fail, they resort to other pretexts,” he added.
