TEHRAN, March 5 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker has called for ‘strong steps’ in relations with Republic of South Africa.

Mehr News quoted Parliament official website report about Ali Larijani’s African visit to Congo and Republic of South Africa.

In the first day of visit to Africa, Larijani was welcomed by South African National Assembly deputy-speaker Nomaindia Mfeketo in Cape Town airport pavilion. “The grounds for expansion of economic relations with South Africa are extended and we believe that both countries should take stronger steps towards this relation,” told Larijani, pointing to the past political and economic negotiations between two countries. “South Africa has taken friendly positions about Iran’s nuclear program,” he asserted.

Nomaindia Mfeketo reiterated her country’s support for Iran’s nuclear program. She also pointed to the US and other countries attempts to sabotage against Iran’s nuclear program. “Iran is a great country which has achieved great successes in many fields including in technology and engineering, medicine, and pharmaceuticals solely relying upon its indigenous resources,” she added.

Larijani has in the agenda visits to the country’s president Jacob Zuma, Max Sisulu, the National Assembly Speaker, and head of National Council of Provinces, Hon Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu to discuss parliamentary relations, bilateral ties and common matters of interest and international developments.

Larijani and the Iranian delegation will leave for Brazzaville airport in Democratic Republic of Congo at 11 hours local time. They will be back to Tehran on Friday March 7.
