Tehran Times reported that in the two-day competition held at Tehran’s Haftom-e Tir Hall, the Iranian team claimed the title with 74 points, followed by Kazakhstan, and Ukraine with 54 and 21 points respectively.
Iran and 15 foreign countries, namely, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Tunisia, Hungary, Georgia, Japan, North Korea, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Turkey, Romania, and Armenia, participated in the tournament.
The Takhti Cup tourney is held in memory of Gholamreza Takhti, who was found dead in a hotel room in Tehran in 1968.
Takhti won a gold medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He also won silver medals at the Olympics in 1952 in Helsinki and in 1960 in Rome.
In addition, Takhti won gold medals at the World Championships in 1959 in Tehran and in 1961 in Yokohama.
