TEHRAN, Jan. 26 (MNA) – The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has said that the United States’ talk about a military option against Iran is only useful as a threat that would always remain on the table.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari made the remarks on Saturday in response to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who recently said that the military option is still on the table if Iran does not adhere to an interim nuclear deal reached between the Islamic Republic and the major powers in Geneva on November 24, 2013.

In an interview with Al Arabiya on Thursday, Kerry said, “If Iran does not execute the commitments it made with Western powers, the military option of the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.”

The IRGC chief said, “According to the information we have received, political and security experts of the United States believe that the military option for Iran is only useful for remaining on the table, and that the use of this option in practice would not be to the benefit of U.S. national security.”

Addressing Kerry, Jafari said, “If you do not have an understanding of military and security issues, ask your experienced experts whether the United States is really able to bear the severe repercussions of using this option against Iran.”
