Zarif said on Wednesday: “The expansion of relations with the Persian Gulf littoral states is among the priorities of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Iran’s ties with the littoral states of the Persian Gulf are ever growing, and we are trying to upgrade these relations to an excellent level.”
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the holding of more sessions of joint commissions is an indication of “growing cooperation” between Tehran and the Persian Gulf littoral states.
Amir-Abdollahian also pointed to Zarif’s recent tour of the Persian Gulf states, stressing that the visits show the Islamic Republic’s “efforts to expand bilateral and collective cooperation in the Middle East region.”
In early December, the Iranian foreign minister visited Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and held talks with senior officials in the Arab countries in line with Tehran’s doctrine of broadening ties with its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region.
