TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (MNA) – The head of Expediency Discernment Council has said restrictive policies and monopoly over public tribunes would backfire.

Mehr News quoted Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani in meeting with Secretary General and the members of Board of Islamic Society of Academics of Iran.  Hashemi asserted that public tribunes should attract the young cohort and that restrictive policies and fostering a monopoly over public tribunes would bring reverse outcomes.

Rafsanjani assessed the Society as the pioneers of academic and religious thinking in the universities and emphasized on the finding practical ways for unity of universities and seminary institutions in an age of information and rapid advances in the sciences. “The conditions are fast-changing inside and outside the country and the world are on a track as impossible to predict the future. We should keep up with the pace of changes so as not to lag behind this rapid pace; otherwise, we will be behind all, and universities and the seminary schools are not the exception,” he said.

Rafsanjani also pointed to era of ‘explosion of information.’ “ willy-nilly, every day new window is being opened in political, cultural and social sciences and the highways of information are expanding and diversifying rapidly,” he added and that “ no barrier is possible in this rapid pace, but the only way is to managing the affairs through scientific boards to find the best way to deal with the phenomenon.”

The head of Expediency Discernment Council warned against the damaging implications of extremism. “The extremist ideology like that of Al-Qaeda is a major barrier against the rule of freedom and democracy in the region and despite the popular revolutions, the extremist and totalitarian schools of thought have changed the tide for dictatorships and hatred of freedoms,” said Rafsanjani.
