The program will begin at Tarbiat Modares with a reading of a message UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has sent to the meeting, the chancellor of the university, Bijan Ranjbar, told the Persian service of IRNA on Monday.
The commemoration has been organized by Tarbiat Modares Tarbiat Modares and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.
The 1000th anniversary of the compilation of Iranian the Canon of Medicine, which is among the most famous books in the history of medicine, has been registered on UNESCO’s 2013 celebration list of anniversaries.
Due to UNESCO’s decision, the occasion will also be commemorated during programs in Turkey, Uzbekistan and Japan, Ranjbar said.
The impacts of the Cannon on the development of medical science in the West, the influence of Avicenna over the Indian subcontinent, and several other subjects will be discussed at the meeting.
A large of number of foreign diplomats has been invited to the meeting.
Ranjbar said that the occasion will be commemorated on Wednesday and Thursday in Hamedan, the western Iranian city that is home to the tomb of Avicenna.
