Taekwondokas claim 5 medals at WT President’s Cup

TEHRAN, Aug. 13 (MNA) – Iranian taekwondo practitioners managed to collect one gold, one silver and three bronze medals on opening day of the first World Taekwondo President's Cup-Asian Region.

Underway in Tashkent of Uzbekistan, the three-day G-2 event, which features cadet, junior and senior divisions, has attracted a total of 620 athletes and 140 officials from 26 countries.

On Saturday, Ahmad Mohammadi of Iran won the title in -87kg weight category while his compatriot finished thirds in the +87-kilogram division.

Iran’s Kiana Akhavan finished vice-champion in Women’s -46kg group while Fatemeh Maddah stood on the third podium in the same category. One more bronze was bagged for the Iranian outfit by Soodabeh Poursadeghi, the female fighter who participated in -49kg group.

Athletes who earn medals at the 1st WT President’s Cup taekwondo championships will be awarded with berths for 2018 Asian Taekwondo Championship to convene May 20-22 next year in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The 1st WTF President's Cup - Asian region is being held on August 11th -13th 2017 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
