Iran rejects restrictions on nuclear facilities ‘free transfer’
TEHRAN, May 6 (MNA) – Iran’s envoy to the IAEA has called for removal of restrictions on ‘free transfer’ of nuclear facilities for peaceful purposes.

Reza Najafi who was addressing the third session of Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York, told that full access by the member states to their undisputable rights was among the fundamental objectives of the NPT, and that “it should provide necessary legal venues and arrangements to exact commitment by all countries especially developed powers to these rights and obligations on facilitating transfer of nuclear material and machinery for peaceful purposes.”

“All countries have the right to set their national agenda for accessing full nuclear fuel chain and should be respected,” Najafi told the meeting, “according to NPT, no factor would affect these rights of countries and the relevant articles are obvious enough in their emphasis on these rights.”

Najafi emphasized that any measure to restrict part or whole of the rights of member states for peaceful nuclear technology was violation of the objectives enshrined in the articles of the treaty and not only would it jeopardize the delicate balance of rights and obligations; “but also it would widen the gap between developed powers and developing countries in enjoying the nuclear energy,” he asserted.

“The ever-increasing need for energy in global economy and even the rapid pace of construction of nuclear power plants across the world highlights the role of nuclear technology in supplying energy and the importance of respect for countries’ rights to nuclear fuel chain,” Najafi told in the meeting.

He strongly rejected the measures taken to restrict and ban the transfer of nuclear facilities under the pretext of being ‘critical’ as ‘unacceptable.’ “This sort of strategy violates the articles of the treaty and should be abandoned,” he said.
